Amazon FBA Multi-Channel Fulfillment (MCF): Use Your FBA Inventory for Shopify & Other Orders

Amazon MCF lets you fulfill orders from Shopify, your website, or other channels using your FBA inventory. This guide covers MCF fees, how to set it up, inventory implications, and when it makes financial sense.

Amazon FBA Multi-Channel Fulfillment (MCF): Use Your FBA Inventory for Shopify & Other Orders

What Is Amazon MCF and How It Works

Amazon Multi-Channel Fulfillment (MCF) allows you to use inventory stored in Amazon FBA warehouses to fulfill orders from channels other than Amazon.com — including your Shopify store, WooCommerce site, Walmart Marketplace, or any other order source.

When a customer orders from your Shopify store, you (or Shopify's Amazon MCF app) send the order details to Amazon. Amazon picks from your FBA inventory and ships to the customer. The customer receives standard Amazon packaging (or blank packaging — see below) without knowing it shipped from Amazon.

MCF is managed through Seller Central under Inventory > Manage Multi-Channel Fulfillment or via the Amazon MCF API. Shopify merchants can use the official Amazon MCF by Shopify app for near-real-time order routing.

MCF Fees vs FBA Fees

MCF fees are higher than standard FBA fulfillment fees because Amazon charges a premium for non-Amazon orders. For a standard-size item (8 oz, 5×4×2 inches), FBA fee is approximately $3.22 while the equivalent MCF fee is approximately $5.37 — about 67% higher.

MCF fee components: pick & pack, weight handling, and dimensional weight charge. There are no separate referral fees for MCF (since there is no Amazon sale), but your standard FBA storage fees still apply to that inventory.

You can request MCF shipping in three speed tiers: Standard (3–5 business days), Expedited (2 business days), and Priority (1 business day). Fees increase at each tier.

The MCF math typically works when: your Shopify AOV is high enough that the MCF fee is <8–10% of the order value, or when you want to consolidate inventory in one location rather than maintain a separate 3PL warehouse.

Blank Box Option: Hiding Amazon Branding

By default, MCF orders ship in Amazon-branded boxes, which can confuse Shopify customers who didn't order from Amazon. Amazon offers a "blank box" option that uses plain packaging without Amazon branding.

Blank box is available for Standard and Expedited tiers. There is an additional charge of approximately $0.50 per shipment. Enable it in Seller Central under Multi-Channel Fulfillment Settings.

Note: even with blank boxes, some customers may recognize Amazon's tape or label format. For brands with a strong DTC identity, consider whether MCF aligns with your unboxing experience goals — or whether a 3PL with custom packaging is a better long-term investment.

Inventory Management Implications

MCF and FBA share the same inventory pool. If you have 100 units in FBA and sell 30 via MCF, you have 70 units left for Amazon orders. This unified inventory pool is an efficiency benefit — no split stock — but it also means a viral Shopify sales spike can deplete Amazon inventory and trigger stockout on your Amazon listing.

To mitigate this risk, set MCF inventory limits (reserve a minimum quantity for Amazon) or maintain a separate 3PL buffer for Shopify during peak periods.

MCF does not support seller-fulfilled Prime (SFP) or Amazon Prime labeling on Shopify orders. MCF orders ship via standard carriers (UPS, USPS, FedEx) and delivery speed depends on the tier you select.

When MCF Makes Sense for Taiwan Brands

MCF is a good fit when you are already shipping large volumes to FBA and want to test DTC without setting up a separate 3PL contract. The lower setup friction is valuable for early-stage expansion.

MCF is less ideal when: your DTC margins require keeping fulfillment costs below 5%, when you need custom packaging as a brand differentiator, or when your SKU mix includes items that exceed FBA size limits.

A hybrid model works well: use MCF for small, lightweight SKUs where the fee is manageable; use a separate 3PL for large/heavy items where MCF fees become prohibitive.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use MCF for international orders?

Amazon MCF currently fulfills to US addresses only from US FBA inventory. For international DTC orders, you would need a separate 3PL with international shipping capability, or use Amazon FBA in the destination country's marketplace.

Does using MCF affect my Amazon seller metrics?

MCF orders are separate from your Amazon Marketplace orders — they do not affect your ODR, late shipment rate, or Amazon seller feedback. They do consume FBA inventory, so monitor stock levels to prevent Amazon stockouts.

How do I connect MCF to Shopify?

Install the "Amazon Multi-Channel Fulfillment" app from the Shopify App Store (developed by Amazon). Connect your Seller Central account, map your Shopify SKUs to ASINs, and configure fulfillment rules. Orders route automatically based on your settings.
