Amazon Brand Registry: Complete Guide for International Sellers

What Is Amazon Brand Registry?

Amazon Brand Registry is a free program that gives brand owners elevated control over their product listings, access to premium marketing tools, and protection against counterfeiters and hijackers.

Without Brand Registry, any seller can potentially create a listing using your brand name, or "hijack" your listing by selling their product under your ASIN. Brand Registry gives you tools to detect and remove these unauthorized listings quickly — directly from Seller Central without waiting for Amazon support.

Brand Registry is available to brands in 18+ countries including Taiwan, and requires only that you have a registered trademark in an eligible country.

What Brand Registry Unlocks

A+ Content (formerly Enhanced Brand Content): Replace the plain text product description with rich visual content — comparison charts, lifestyle images, full-width banners, and branded narratives. A+ Content typically increases conversion rates by 5–10%.

Brand Stores: A free multi-page Amazon "microsite" for your brand. Customers who click your brand name anywhere on Amazon arrive at a curated storefront showing all your products. This is premium shelf space at zero cost.

Sponsored Brand Ads: Video ads and banner ads at the top of Amazon search results — only available to Brand Registry sellers. These are the most visible ad placements on Amazon.

Amazon Vine: The ability to enroll up to 30 units per ASIN in Vine, where trusted Amazon reviewers receive your product and leave honest reviews. Cost: $200 per ASIN. This is the fastest legitimate way to build reviews on a new listing.

Intellectual Property violation reporting: A direct submission tool to report counterfeit products, unauthorized use of your trademark, and listing hijackers. Reports are reviewed significantly faster than standard seller support tickets.

Getting a US Trademark from Taiwan

To enroll in Brand Registry for the US Amazon marketplace, you need a trademark registered (or pending) with the USPTO (US Patent and Trademark Office). You do not need to be a US citizen or resident.

Process: (1) Search the USPTO TESS database to confirm your brand name is available. (2) File a trademark application online at USPTO.gov — $250–$350 per class. (3) USPTO will assign a serial number within 24 hours of filing. (4) Use the serial number to enroll in Brand Registry immediately — you do not need to wait for trademark approval.

Timeline: Filing to approval takes 12–18 months. But you can enroll in Brand Registry with a pending trademark, so you get access to all tools while the application processes.

Alternative: The Taiwan TIPO (Taiwan Intellectual Property Office) trademark is also accepted for Brand Registry. If you already have a TIPO trademark for your brand, you can use that to enroll for the US marketplace.

Step-by-Step Brand Registry Enrollment

Step 1: Make sure your Seller Central account is for a Professional selling plan. Individual plan accounts cannot enroll in Brand Registry.

Step 2: Go to brandregistry.amazon.com and click "Enroll Now." Sign in with your Seller Central credentials.

Step 3: Enter your brand name (must exactly match the trademark), trademark registration number (or pending application number), and the trademark office (USPTO, TIPO, EU IPO, etc.).

Step 4: Amazon will send a verification code to the trademark contact email on file with the trademark office. Retrieve the code and enter it to complete enrollment.

Step 5: Once enrolled, activate A+ Content by going to Advertising → A+ Content Manager in Seller Central and creating your first enhanced content module.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does Amazon Brand Registry take to approve?

Once you submit the enrollment form with a valid trademark number (active or pending), Amazon typically approves the Brand Registry application within 2–5 business days. You will receive an email confirmation and immediate access to Brand Registry tools.

Can I enroll with a Taiwan trademark for Amazon US?

Yes. Amazon accepts trademarks from TIPO (Taiwan Intellectual Property Office) for enrollment in Brand Registry, including for the US marketplace. However, for maximum protection in the US market, also filing with USPTO is recommended.

Does Brand Registry prevent all hijackers?

Brand Registry significantly reduces hijacking risk and gives you fast tools to remove unauthorized sellers, but it does not create a physical barrier. Consistent monitoring of your listings (or using a brand protection service) is still necessary, especially as your sales volume grows.
